About me, Kim Alexander. There are 2 strands to my artistic practice:
Arts Education and Commercial Animation
I believe wholeheartedly in the power of the arts to support the positive social, emotional and educational development of both individuals and communities. I have extensive experience working with children in schools, and designing and delivering participatory arts projects for children, teenagers and young adults both in the UK and internationally. I've also been facilitating group and one-to-one art sessions online since March 2020.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and a Postgrad Diploma in Character Animation and am qualified as an Arts Award Adviser at Silver and Bronze levels.
I am fully committed to inclusion in education and using the arts to support wellbeing. My practice is informed by a PDC in Therapeutic Communication for Work with Children and an Advanced Diploma in the Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts. I hold an up-to-date DBS on the online update system.
In my commercial animation practice I specialise in traditional 2D frame-by-frame animation, vector-based 2D animation and stop-motion, with over 12 years of industry experience working on both independent and commercial animations for short films, TV and web broadcast. Clients include Google, the BBC, Virgin Media, Vodafone Childline, the NSPCC and Alzheimer’s research among others.
I have experience both collaborating as part of an animation team at studios including Aardman, Nomint and Superdoodle, as well as directing independently for clients including Random House and the University of Nottingham. I have also worked as a storyboard artist for both animation and live action commercial campaigns.
I particularly enjoy working on projects that have a positive social or educational focus.
I mentor one-to-one for students on the Central St. Martin's Masters in Character Animation.
